10,000 steps ?

10,000 steps ?

I might be the last person on earth discovering this but since a few months back I'm in love with the cute pink turned red heart on my phone. You know, the big brother which samples your health data and tracks your move... Because I've realised it can help me being the healthy person I'm supposed to be. And, several times a day I can't help but wonder how my feet did: I'm desperately aiming for 10,000 steps and desperately failing.

If I believe the Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, it turns out Japan is the one that put the 10,000 steps' goal in people’ minds in the 60s, "a daily walk of 8,000 to 10,000 steps" is recommended. Some days I'm not even close to it, some days I fit just in.

Those are the days when I run, which I'd love to do more often but between a certain lack of time and the weather, you know it’s easier said than done !

I'm deskbound, work in front of a computer 8 hours a day, and would love if every day could have let's say five more hours.

Since I can't commit to frequently working out, I walk as much as possible - by taking the bus or the metro one stop later, and sometimes I bike and good news, a clinical study showed last year that "efforts to encourage even small increases in activity in inactive individuals may be beneficial to public health".

Now I just have to run the staircase everyday and I may be lucky enough to "achieve weight maintenance, have a healthier body mass and composition" as the WHO told me those 10,000 steps will bring me.

And you, how active are you? We'd love to hear!
