The Urge to Change
The first time I ordered from Paris-born brand Sezane it was right after Labor Day here in the US. Fall had just kicked in, at least in our unofficial calendars. Back-to-school time, time for a wardrobe overhaul!
Je Ne Sais Quoi
Why Sezane? As a Parisian at heart, I’ve tried to stay in the know when it comes to French fashion and it-brands, or hidden gems...6,000 miles away. Quite vain or pointless, I know. Especially since I’m more of the occasional Instagrammer and blogger. But thanks to my Very Auguste partner in crime, I’ve seen a few Parisian digital brands emerge, such as Sezane or Balzac Paris. Admiring the cuts, styling while browsing, feeling that my NYC wardrobe was in desperate need for this very twist I was sifting through. A “je ne sais quoi” that defines French style, hence, French women. A twist I used to master, but had somewhat lost in translation, upon moving to yet an exciting destination.
Grown Woman in Paris
So, on this very Labor Day 2016, I ordered from a coveted (at least by me - living the French way by proxy) brand.
Why does it matter? Yep, didn’t save the world nor made a huge scientific breakthrough in MS research. To me, it’s just a way to feel closer to my country and Paris, the town where I became a grown up, a woman, through clothing experiences and life experiences at once.
Besides the act of purchase, there's this almost inbred, modern myth that change comes in 2 or 3 clicks and a wardrobe overhaul. The fast-track "reinvention of self" for the busy bee or "femme pressée".*
Modern Myth
Like many of us, women and men, every other year, I feel this urge to become someone else: Not a different person, but still me, in a better or new shape. That’s how we change, evolve and seek to become another version of us, that is still us (thank you, Heraclites 101!) So yes, in that very Labor Day 2016, a couple of hours away from the unofficial kick-off of fall season, two clicks made me enter this whirlwind of change (did I mention I have a thing for the Scorpions?).**
